Set up single attribute selection across multiple attributes

In this post:

Sometimes you have large collections of colors and textures, and want the customer to pick only 1 option.

With Staggs you can create such a setup using the “Shared group name” field.

Let’s get into it

The shared group field

To configure the shared group field, simply head over to your attribute and open the “presentation” tab

Now look for the field “Shared group name”:

Ideally, the shared group name is somewhat relevant to the attributes it links.

Because this name will show up in summary, cart and checkout instead of the regular attribute title

Let’s say you have 2 attributes: premium collection and summer collection

And you want to link both attributes, a good shared group name would be: “Collection”

Also make sure the title does not conflict with other attribute titles.

Otherwise you might get yourselves into some trouble.

Attribute titles have to be unique (except when using conditional logic)

Result

As a result, only one option in both attributes is selected. Because they share the same name now.

Final words

The shared group field allows you to let customer pick one option across various attributes

The idea is to limit selection to one option, so the shared group label won’t work in combination with multi select attributes.
